on novels, women and writing
For Women's History Month, I am excited to spotlight my friend and author Kristen L. Berry whose debut novel, "We Don't Talk About Carol" is coming out this June.
Every year, I am so happy that Women’s History Month falls after Black History Month because it feels like a constant celebration. While there have been many conversations about these months in recent weeks, I plan to continue to celebrate both, which is why I am so excited to host a series this month focused on women and creatives who inspire me.
When I initially came up with this idea, I thought one person I would love to speak with was my friend Kristen L. Berry.
I met Kristen years ago, truthfully over a decade ago, in one of my friend’s book clubs back in San Francisco, and I instantly took a liking to Kristen. She’s vibrant, warm, and one of the most bookish people I know. If Kristen recommends a book, I add it to my list and read it (still on Goodreads, although she may have swayed me some to use Storygraph more), which is why I am so excited that she is releasing her debut novel, We Don’t Talk About Carol, on June 3rd.
Kristen described the book as the following:
Sounds great right?
I initially interviewed Kristen for my podcast that I do with Andrea Brown called Creative Canvas, and now I am interviewing her here. For the conversation, we discuss her debut novel, a few of her favorite female writers, the power of feedback and more.
You can listen to the interview below:
Or watch it below:
Be sure to pre-order Kristen’s debut novel everywhere here—I’ve pre-ordered so many copies for friends and family.
Also tell all your friends about Kristen’s Debut Novel by sharing this newsletter edition.
Lastly, be sure to follow what Kristen is up to via her Substack, Books Are Life and on Instagram.
I’m offering free coffee shots if you can count how many times I say I am excited throughout the interview. I am just a proud, proud, proud friend.
That’s it for this week. In the meantime, let’s stay connected via Instagram or Threads.
See you next week!
